Curriculum

East High School provides students with a well-rounded curriculum to prepare them for the next stages of their lives in the 21st century. Here you will find information regarding the Iowa Core Curriculum and what students are learning in each subject area. You will also find the Des Moines Public School graduation requirements. Every student has specific courses he or she is required to complete before graduating. Course Catalog 2022-23
Every year after winter break, East High students enroll in courses for the following year. Graduation requirements include 3 social science credits, 4 credits English credits, 3 mathematics credits, 1.5 applied/fine arts credits, 1 physical education credit and 7.5 elective credits. Students should have a minimum 6 credits after ninth grade, 12 credits after 10th grade, 18 credits after 11th grade and a minimum of 23 credits to graduate. To be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities, a student must have passed all courses (minimum course load = 4 academic courses per semester). Summer school can not be used to make-up courses for eligibility purposes only. Here you will find the East High course catalog and course request forms. Graduation Requirements
Des Moines Public Schools provides high school students with a rich selection of courses from which to choose. Some of these courses meet specific graduation requirements in areas such as social sciences, mathematics and English. But many options are also available for electives, including a wide selection of Advanced Placement courses, foreign languages, career and technical programs, and the International Baccalaureate diploma program.
